Germany continues to lead the solar energy revolution

Since March 29th. 2000, Germany has has witnessed 40% of its solar energy capacity come from private households turning the country into a renewable energy powerhouse aiming for a complete transformation of its energy system.  12 years have passed since the German parliament adopted the “Renewable Energy Sources Act”.  Private households, farmers, small & medium businesses, as well as regional utilities have ushered in an amazing solar revolution.

Global coal and oil prices are largely a product of producer cartels working in concert with the demands of the US, EU, Japan, and China.  Yet, the German government decided to abandon nuclear power after the Fukushima nuclear disaster last year, closing eight plants immediately.  They have also scheduled the closing of their remaining nine nuclear plants in the next 10 years.  Renewable energy sources such as wind, solar, and bio-mass will continue to replace the power that the closed nuclear power plants would have provided.

The benefits of transitioning to renewable energy are immense.  Like Germany, we are all faced with the choice to look backward or to move forward.  As  grass efforts continue to take root, entirely new business models are being created.  You don’t have to buy your power from a large utility company that is going to raise your rates by 20% this upcoming winter.  You can choose a renewable energy solution.  These days you can choose between owning the renewable energy equipment or simply buying green electricity from a company owned system located directly on your property.  You have the power to choose a green solution.
